Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (Bonn Convention)
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals was signed on 23 June 1979 and entered into force on 1 November 1983. The CMS provides a global platform for the conservation of migratory species internationally and the conservation and restoration of their habitats. The Parties adopt coordinated conservation measures that mitigate obstacles to migration and control other factors that might endanger the migratory species. Furthermore, the CMS provides the framework necessary for the adoption of minor agreements between the Parties of the Convention that treat more effectively the need for protection of specific migratory species and specific regions.
