International Tropical Timber Agreement (ITTA)
The ITTA was signed in Geneva on 27 January 2006 and entered into force on 7 December 2011. The Agreement is based on previous international tropical timber agreements (ITTA/1983 & ITTA/1994) and focuses on issues concerning the international trade in tropical timber and the promotion of the sustainable management of natural resources, specially forests. Furthermore, there are provisions on information exchange, including data on non-tropical timber trade and on the examination of non-tropical timber trade issues which are related, directly or indirectly, to timber coming from Tropical Forests.
